In 2013 I decided to try paper cutting as a hobby because it was inexpensive and I could easily do it in an apartment. As we bought a house, I started acquiring woodworking tools to create more projects. Later that year I contacted a local laser cutter named Bill to create some of my designs and found how much I enjoy working with automated machining.
About
Welcome to Maker Experiment!
I’M TREVOR WANAMAKER AND I LIKE TO DESIGN AND CREATE.
As both a husband and father of two, I love involving my children in my work as they grow. With a background in 3D CAD design and engineering, I’ve been able to use those skills to create woodworking and laser projects. If you’d like to learn more about me and what I do, check out the video!
MY SKILLS
- Laser Engraving and Cutting
- 3D CAD Design
- Adobe Illustrator
- Woodworking
Over the next few years, I became friends with Bill and he taught me how to operate the laser machine, how to design for it, and ultimately mentored me in all things laser. In 2016 I bought a used Full Spectrum hobby laser. Although it was not the best experience, it taught me a lot about laser maintenance, troubleshooting, and gave me more flexibility to create. In 2017 I found a used Epilog laser and upgraded and I still use it today.
Most of my work has involved creating custom logo signs, custom laser engraved magnets, and other personalized products.
My goal is to turn this hobby into a sustainable business and be able to share my creations with all of you. If you like what I create, I’d love for you to follow me on my journey and follow me on YouTube as well as Instagram @makerexperiment.
