How to Engrave Leatherette Bottle Openers

How to Engrave Leatherette Bottle Openers

For the last year or so, I have engraved a lot of the leatherette products that JDS and JP Plus offer. I recently had a client bring me some of the leatherette bottle openers to engrave and I thought that this would be a great time to make a video on the process.

For this project, I used my Epilog Laser.

  • Laser specs: 60 watt Epilog Fusion M2 40
  • Raster Engraving: 600DPI, 80% speed, 15% power achieved my best results

STEP 1: Create the Artwork

Setting up the artwork for these types of bottle openers is fairly straight forward.  Once you download the design template, you'll need to setup your artwork within the design window.

The file is set-up in multiple layers that can be hidden or shown as needed to create the jig and to engrave the bottle openers. After this file is set-up, you'll be able to make the jig.

STEP 2: Make the Jig for Your Machine

For my jig, I am using 1/4" thick MDF. I would recommend using 1/4" thick material of your choice. Use the border of the design to cut spots for the bottle openers to sit into.  This will be a vector cutting operation.

STEP 3: Begin Machining the Bottle Openers

After the jig has been made, load it with bottle openers. Then, focus the head to the left or right of center to avoid the magnet.

STEP 4: ENJOY!

Enjoy your branded bottle openers!
